Chevrolet from the Beginning

Chevrolet is a brand of vehicles produced by General Motors Company (GM). General Motors, United States, was ranked second in the world, in the top vehicle manufacturing groups (by volume), by International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) in 2010. Chevrolet is also known as Chevy.
It was founded by a race car driver, Louis Chevrolet, with William C. Durant on November 3, 1911 and named it as Chevrolet Motor Car. In 1912, William Little and Dr. Edwin R. Campbell joined them as investment partners. Bowtie emblem logo was first used by them in 1913. According to a historian, Ken Kaufmann, says that the logo is based upon ""Coalettes"". Some say that the logo is a "Swiss Cross", given some style.
In 1915, Louis Chevrolet sold Durant his share due to a dispute over a design. Dorant repurchased a controlling share in General Motors by 1916. In 1917, Durant became GM president, and merged Chevrolet with it.
A V8 powered model roadster and tourer were introduced Chevrolet in 1918. They had 288in3 55 hp (41 kW) engines with Zenith carburetors while other cars of that era had low compression flat head engines. It was a big achievement by Chevrolet.

Corvette was introduced by Chevrolet in 1953. It was a two seater sports car. It had a fiber glass body. It introduced Corvair in 1960, which had a rear mounted air cooled engine. Chevrolet small-block V-8 design, which was introduced in 1955, remained in production longer than any other engine in the world.
Today Chevrolet is operating in more than 140 countries of the world. According to 2010 statistics, Chevrolet sold 4.26 million vehicles worldwide. It operates in countries like USA, Canada, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Korea, Thailand, Australia etc. Thus Chevrolet emerged from a race car driver and now it is one of the biggest vehicle manufacturing companies in the world.
